Call of Duty: Ghosts: First Impressions - Above and Beyond

On the other, Activision probably didn't want this conference to be remembered for a dog. This was the big announcement, the world's first eyes-on for next-gen Call of Duty. As if that wasn't enough to confirm that this was serious business, Eric Hirshberg, CEO, took to the stage to talk us through the preamble. This is a man whose jacket is so well pressed you could land an aircraft on it. His shoes cost more than your house. He is a focused dude, telling us that Call of Duty is here to stay.

The numbers say so, apparently. Via every metric, it's on the up. Call of Duty isn't...

The shots were uploaded earlier today by Xbox Wire, Microsoft's official news site, and show the grounds of Microsoft's Xbox Reveal event.

Take a look through them in the gallery below for a look at the final Xbox Reveal Tent and a next-gen doormat. Is this the size of the living room you'll need to use Kinect 2.0?

And don't forget to join us later today for Microsoft's full reveal, where we'll be jumping into the live chat to talk with the VideoGamer.com community throughout the event.

Source: Xbox Wire

Durango Unchained: VideoGamer.com predicts what will happen during tomorrow's next Xbox reveal

Not that such an initiative would kill off pre-owned, of course; I expect a system to be introduced that would allow second-hand users to purchase a new license for an additional fee, similar to the existing Online Pass system. And such a thing may also allow for disc-less playback as well. If the game's registered to your account and installed/accessible off the cloud, what need would there be for the disc?

Of course, given the 60 minute time limit, I wouldn't imagine too much time to be devoted to the politics behind licensing, and so anticipate precise details about the...

'y cant metroid crawl?' - A Compendium Of VideoGamer.com Stupidity

Here's VideoGamer.com's own shameful gaming memories.

Tom Orry, Editorial Director - Silent Hill 4: The Room: y cant i leave room?

I've had a few "Durrr!" moments in video games over the years, but the one that sticks out the most is undoubtedly the opening of Silent Hill 4: The Room. You start off in an apartment, and you're able to wander about. I did the usual video game routine of walking up to every object in order to see if I could interact with it, which included a phone and a window if I remember correctly. This ambling went on for about 30 minutes...

I'd put off playing Uncharted 3 for too long, so with The Last of Us on the horizon I dusted off my copy, installed four updates and set off on another Drake adventure. Well, I actually took part in some horrible scripted combat and wandered about as young Drake. I'm sure things will pick up, but I was pretty underwhelmed by the opening 30 minutes. Still, it looks very pretty.

Simon Miller, Editor-In-Chief - Donkey Kong Returns 3D, 3DS

As well as The Last of Us – and for more on that read our preview or take a peek at Dave's novel below – I dove into Donkey Kong...

The Last of Us: Naughty Dog's Imperfect Goodbye To The PS3

Standing as almost Uncharted's direct opposite, The Last of Us is a bleak affair. Be it the world that stands in front of you, the situation you find yourself in or the characters themselves, it's a dark, intense situation to experience. If Nathan Drake turned up and made a wisecrack, someone would probably kick him in the shin. Unlike, say, a Dead Rising where you have the suspicion everything is actually going to be alright, here the opposite is true. Alongside a vicious zombie horde, your fellow man has also turned, made no more evident than when Joel and Ellie's car is ambushed by an...

Why is Gran Turismo 6 skipping PS4's launch?

It seemed an odd move. After all, why would Sony opt to release the next edition of a game viewed by many as the company's greatest graphical showpiece on eight-year old hardware, rather than add another string to PS4's bow?

Nevertheless, the rumours turned out to be true. Yesterday, Sony announced Gran Turismo 6 for release on PS3 this Christmas, albeit it alongside the suggestion from series creator Kazunori Yamauchi that the game could eventually work its way onto PS4, too.

But why did Sony stick to current-gen tech for the initial release of GT6, rather than...

Heads-up: New games out this week (May 17)

For now, here's what you can think about spending your money on this week.

Recommended: Metro: Last Light - Xbox 360, PS3 and PC

Ideal for those who are scared of the sun, Metro: Last Light throws you back into the dimly lit tunnels of a post-apocalyptic Russia and attempts to scare the crap out of you. An FPS in the more classic sense, you owe it to yourself to play this if you get a kick out of things that don't necessarily follow the standard gaming template.

Even better is that it succeeds too. Find out more in our review.

Worth a look<br...

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified - Fighting The Future

If you're experiencing supernatural phenomena it might be time to calm it down, or at least leave a message with Bill Murray – but it's also understandable. This is the London leg of a tour that has stretched across Europe, in a mad dash to promote The Bureau before its August release.

You get the feeling that, like Rico, The Bureau is against the clock. It's been a long time coming now, and hardly been the smoothest of rides - delays, design changes, another game called XCOM coming out and being critically acclaimed have all worked, in one way or another, against it. <br...

While fighting tiredness on an evening train back from Paris on Sunday I decided I'd finally give Plague Inc a go. I was perhaps a little too dozy to get fully into what was happening, but if you think about what's going on it's really rather dark. While playing I hoped I wouldn't be asked what I was doing, as trying to sound like a normal member of society would be pretty difficult. "Yeah, I'm a virus whose aim is to wipe out the entire population by carefully planning where to attack first, how to mutate, and how best to infect others. That number that is rising at an alarming rate is the...

10 Big Gaming Departures

We feel for Désilets on this one. After leaving Ubisoft in 2010 due to concerns over the direction in which the Assassin Creed series – Patrice's baby – was headed, Patrice soon found himself at THQ, with the publisher giving him the freedom to work on 1666, another grand, ambitious, historical-themed personal project.

And then THQ went down the tubes faster than Usain Bolt at a water park, meaning Désilets ended back up with Ubisoft after it acquired his game. Until today of course, when Désilets and Ubi parted ways. Ubi tried to say it was one of those mutual things,...

Heads-up: New games out this week (May 10)

Recommended: The Walking Dead - Xbox 360, PS3 and PC

A real game now that it's come to retail, you should go and play The Walking Dead today. More of an interactive adventure than your standard gaming affair, Telltale proves just how important and engaging story-telling can be. You don't just have to shoot zombies in the face to enjoy yourself. Who knew?!

We would implore you to go and download this immediately rather than wait till the end of the week - the iOS version isn't as good, mind - but if you're a sucker for a disc in a box, there are far worse things to...

Remember Me: Unlikely To Last Long In The Memory?

For starters, the good. Dontnod deserves plenty of credit for the world it’s created. It’s easy in today’s video game landscape to piece together a city that fails to do its job in capturing the attention of its audience and the French development studio has managed to avoid such pitfalls admirably. It’s version of Neo-Paris in a very different 2084 has been pieced together really quite beautifully, giving you an experience on par with the big-hitters of the genre. It may not have the openness of, say, a Skyrim, but many of the landscapes and horizons are, at least, equally as...

GTA 5: The Other Things That Will Make It Great

Anyway, forget all that. Here are the smaller things that will make GTA 5 the best thing since the last thing Rockstar did.

Triathlons

A funny thing to get excited about, especially when in reality the prospect of even thinking about competing in a triathlon seems about as more terrifying than spiders and zombie Thatcher combined.

In San Andreas however, the combination of triathlons and an in-game week cycle turned me into the sort of iron man that would make Lance Armstrong's doping program proud. Every Sunday I'd change into my gym shorts, head down to...

VideoGamer.com Plays May 5, 2013

Although you've probably ingested more GTA 5 information in the last 24 hours than you can handle and, to be honest, I only saw it rather than played it, it's my pleasure to say this is what I'm compelled to talk about this week. While Rockstar's latest demo was short, it gave enough away to convince me that it's going to the best game of the year and for good reason.

Weirdly, I'm not even that fussed about all the little things that are returning, such as being able to customise your clothes or take a yoga class. I like that the options exist, but if my San Andreas experience is...
